Product Overview

The Allen-Bradley 1768-CNB serves as a high-speed communication gateway for CompactLogix 1768 controller systems. This module enables the controller to bridge data between the local backplane and a ControlNet network, supporting critical real-time I/O and messaging functions. We supply this unit as 100% Brand New original factory stock, providing a high-availability solution for legacy systems that require deterministic, repeatable data transfers in demanding industrial environments.

Engineering Advantages

  • Deterministic Network Performance: The 1768-CNB utilizes the ControlNet protocol to ensure time-critical data reaches its destination with zero jitter. This hardware eliminates the unpredictable latency often found in standard Ethernet networks, making it ideal for high-speed synchronized motion or precise process control loops.

  • Extended Node Scalability: A single 1768-CNB manages communications for up to 99 nodes. This capacity allows engineers to expand distributed I/O racks and drive systems across large facility footprints without adding additional controller hardware.

  • Simplified Network Access: The integrated Network Access Port (NAP) provides a direct entry point for programming tools and maintenance PCs. Technicians connect to the entire ControlNet segment through the bridge front panel, facilitating rapid configuration and diagnostic monitoring without disturbing the primary media cabling.

  • Dedicated 1768 Bus Integration: Unlike standard expansion modules, the 1768-CNB mounts directly to the left side of a 1768-L43 or 1768-L45 controller. This dedicated high-speed bus ensures maximum data throughput between the CPU and the communication port, preventing bottlenecks during heavy messaging cycles.

  • Robust Legacy Support: As a discontinued-by-manufacturer component, finding original, unused hardware is critical for system longevity. Our 100% Brand New stock ensures you avoid the reliability risks of used or refurbished modules, preserving the integrity of your existing 1768 architecture.

FAQs

  • Does the 1768-CNB support redundant media?

No. The 1768-CNB is a single-media module. If your application requires redundant ControlNet media (Dual Coax), you should verify compatibility with your 1768 controller system and consider if the network architecture supports a single-link bridge.

  • In which slot should I install the 1768-CNB?

This module must install in the 1768 bus slots located to the left of the 1768-L4x controller. You cannot install this module in the standard 1769 I/O slots located to the right of the power supply.

  • How many ControlNet bridges can one 1768 controller support?

The 1768-L43 and 1768-L45 controllers support up to two and four 1768-bus modules respectively. Consult your controller's manual to ensure the total power draw stays within the limits of the system power supply.

  • How do I know this module is truly brand new?

We guarantee every 1768-CNB arrives in its Original Allen-Bradley Factory Box with intact security seals. As a brand-new unit, the module features clean, oxidation-free BNC connectors and zero insertion marks on the backplane interface, ensuring the longest possible MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures).
